Recipe shadow box

I pretty much love that my hobby lets me make pretty things that are also functional! We'd had these Balsa wood shadow boxes hanging around the store for a while and Dala asked me to play around with them, she also wanted something done with Prima Chalkboard paint (because we ordered thinking it was really cool and nobody was biting the bullet).

So I turned one side of the shadow box into a chalkboard menu planner and recipe holder and the other is a photo frame and recipe card box. How functional is that?!

I'm actually kind of sad that it has to be at the store for a while, though I am really excited about it as a class.

The papers are from Ruby Rock-It Country Cookin and paired beautifully with the chalkboard paint.
I used a little red Viva Devor Inka Gold to lend some vintage distressing.

The other embellishments include real vintage bottle caps, BG Herb and Honey wood Veneers, WRMK twine, and some Fab Scraps chipboard.

On the chalkboard side I free-handed some swirls with Art Anthology Dimensional Crystals.

wintertime box

I sort of wish I'd taken a "before" for this project. The box for this snowy community housed a Disney Planes plane that Grandma had to have for the boys, so I had two of these high-quality plastic containers. While not normally a hoarder, my mom gave me some seriously strange looks when I told her I was going to keep them for some sort of project.

Naturally, I gave her one of the two that I made.

A lot of modeling paste and embossing powder gave the snow some depth and shine. Though, I probably should have made the car a bit smaller since it's grossly out of scale with the house.

The paper shapes were all cut from a variety of Silhouette Studio shapes and the trees were from Fancy Pants.

Oops, the moose lost his antlers, no worries I glued them back on but forgot to take another picture. The cute little snowman was made with Mod Melts.

And if you look really closely at the ceiling of this box you'll see the Disney Planes logo, which soooo didn't go with my little wintry scene. I used MME Necessities Metallic vellum to cover it up. The vellum kept the scene bright and camouflaged the logo.

Not so bad for an upcycled community. ;)

More Pocket Pages

I've got another installment in the pocket pages saga today. Dala got a steal of a deal on some Bella Blvd papers and asked me to cook up some plans for them. We started with pocket pages using the boy and girl themed papers, Max and Molly. Today you'll meet Max.

A little explanation before we get into the photos, my sister has two boys that are within months of being the same age as mine. This summer my mom took the 5s for a week and the almost 4s for a week each. I have so many photos from those two weeks, pockets were a great way to begin tackling the stack of photos. These photos are from one event with the younger boys, please note my sister and I didn't coordinate clothes but somehow Grandma got them (and Papa!) in nearly identical colors, I don't know how she did it.

See that right side panel with the camo? I've had problems keeping the paper in the pocket. How do you keep paper in yours?

Cozy Christmas

I've recently gotten started using some pocket pages again. Things are going better than my first foray into pockets

I pulled out some photos from two years ago to do a class using Simple Stories Cozy Christmas for the store. We have a lot of customers who look at the pockets and journaling cards and don't end up buying so I'm hoping that some of these types of classes will inspire them to take the plunge.

I know that, for me at least, pockets will never be my dominant style but I'm really liking them for event photos. And I'm looking forward to using some of the tools that just got debuted at CHA.

Pop party banner and layout

I'm up today on the Scrapbooksteals blog with the Monday Craft Madness inspiration. It's been a long time since I blogged for anyone but myself and it was so.much.fun.

Melodee, buyer extraordinaire, sent me Kaisercraft's Pop Collection. Naturally, when presented with party themed paper I had to start out by making a party banner.

I wanted to make sure I was including as many of these fun, colorful prints as I could so I busted out my Hazel & Ruby masks and used them as stencils and fussy cut out the shapes.

Once all the pieces were cut, I realized that I had a lot of color going on so I pulled paper from a dictionary that's long been beat up and unused (other than for craft projects like this) and cut triangles to neutralize the color a bit.

It was still a bit more pattern and color than I could handle so I "inked" all the edges with blue and red Viva Inka Gold and then glued it all down.

I also pulled out black and silver Viva Decor 3D stamp paint, painted them on and then misted them a bit so that the colors would meld and blend nicely. It also helps make them a little extra sparkly. I like that in some areas they have lots of sparkle but you can see touches of the colored shapes.

Add in some wide eyelets, twine, and Teresa Collins enamel dots and these banners were done. It only took me an evening (and most of that time was also spent watching a movie with the family).

I had hardly touched the stickers and only about half of the papers so I decided that I should also do a layout.

I started by cutting up some of the paper into triangles and just layering them together. Double sided paper makes that awesome - even more prints to use!

A close-up or two will show you that I also layered up some of the stickers to give them depth, and went on to add Glossy Accents to them.

I sort of went to town on Stickles too. I wanted to create a lot of texture and dimension without making my page very thick and I find that glitter is really good for that.

Thanks for stopping by, I hope that you are inspired to do a little celebrating of your own.

Halloween mini book

Still playing catch-up on some of those projects that never got posted. I think with this one I'll be caught up to projects that I've been creating since I began blogging again.

I've never been a big one for Halloween festivities. We do the dress-up thing for the boys but not much else. When Dala asked me to use up some older Pebbles papers for a mini book I about groaned out loud. But really, this line is super cutesy and was sort of fun to make.

Grab a cup of coffee and enjoy these scary pages.

A small page flap, yay.

Watch the spider...

because inside things get a little spookier.

Mmm, more flaps.

Apparently, I got carried away with those early pages because this one is pretty simple.

And yes, I pre-sewed all those back pages for my students. The class heaved a sigh of relief when they realized that the effect was created for them.

Next time they may not be so lucky...

Cameo Basics Class

This card is the second installment in my Cameo Basics classes at Soul Sentiments. I love these classes because I walk them through a series of techniques and tools in the Silhouette program and their cards often do not end up looking anything like mine.

Plus, since I want them to feel comfortable experimenting it's a good way to purge some of my scraps and older papers.

And then there's the simple passing on of my love for the machine. Actually, it was my passionate discussion of things it could do that prompted the series.
